Project details

In Switzerland, Terre des Hommes encourages solidarity by organizing the March of Hope. Each year, the march is partially organized by children from Geneva who wish to show solidarity and do something for children living elsewhere in the world. The young Genevans are looking for people who sponsor them for each kilometre they walk during the march. The money obtained goes to the various projects of Terre des Hommes. In 1998 some 12'000 persons, including 4'900 children, took part in the march. Altogether some 12'000 persons, guided by 250 volunteers. The 1999 edition proved extremely successful as well.

Terre des Hommes Switzerland is an organization of cooperation and development that supports about 60 projects in favor of children in Africa, America and Asia. The aim of the organization is to help local populations in such a way that they can ensure their own development and autonomy.

Volunteering Opportunities

Terre des Hommes engaged 10 ICVolunteers to:
  • help with security positions (guide the walkers, check dangerous spots, communicate with walkie-talkies, etc.)
  • Early risers to help blow up 3'000 helium balloons from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Short Term Projects

ICVolunteers promotes volunteerism and its recognition, by enhancing civic commitment and involvement, and by providing leadership and links between organizations, individuals and communities. With this perspective, ICVolunteers develops projects and leads initiatives.
